THE HISTORY OF NEALSA

Northeast Alabama Litigation Support Association (NEALSA) was formed in August, 2004 after a group of paralegal students, paralegals, attorneys and community members met to discuss the need for a professional association.

NEALSA is dedicated to the education of local paralegals and students at Gadsden State Community College which is a ABA approved paralegal program in the state of Alabama.

In 2004, NEALSA became an affiliate of The National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA).  NALA is a nationally recognized organization that promotes high ethical standards among paralegals.

NEALSA offers seminars to paralegal students, paralegals and attorneys to further their professional development.

NEALSA voted to expand our membership pool by including members of the legal support staff which includes legal secretaries and assistants.  This decision was based upon the fact that most, if not all, legal secretaries have been given increased roles within the law office.  By including all legal support staff, they must adopt and conform to the bylaws and cannons institued by NALA.
